Not too sure what to make of this one. The beginning was really drawing me into the character, but it didn't take long for his behavior and attitude to really take a turn for the worse. Much like the handyman father, I also had trouble seeing just what the hardworking partner saw in this guy.
This story is loaded with heavy Britspeak, both in words and sentence structure, which takes a little getting used to. When it is done consistently throughout a story like this, it really gives me a feel for the story and characters and I find it quite enjoyable. Not sure the same would be true for a full-length book, however.
